Geranium

Geranium Growing CompetitionGeraniums originally came from South Africa so you will not be surprised that they do not mind dry, warm conditions. Make sure that you harden them off before allowing them to stay outside over night after all risk of frost has gone, this will probably be about mid-May. Take care to ensure that they are not over watered at any time. They will enjoy bright sunlight.Unlike last year’s Fuchsias, Geraniums do not need pinching out to maintain a shape. Pot them on as far as a 5 inch terracotta coloured clay or plastic pot using multi-purpose compost. Give them a twice weekly dose of a balanced plant food. For judging at July’s meeting place the pot on a matching saucer and put your initials on the underside of both. Remember to remove all dead parts and seed pods too together with debris and weeds from the surface of the soil. The judge will be looking for a pest-free, healthy, vigorous and symmetrical plant.Regardless of what you think about your plant please bring it back for judging in July.Julia
